SMARTEAM - Editor is the core, Windows-based product lifecycle collaboration application of the SMARTEAM product suite. It provides business collaboration solutions that enable enterprises to share, exchange, view, and manage product information from concept through obsolescence.
SMARTEAM - Editor enables businesses to manage various types of data and resources, including CAD drawings and assemblies, Bills of Material (BOMs), Office-type documents, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and more. In conjunction with the SMARTEAM Foundation, SMARTEAM Editor provides data security, file and metadata storage, and advanced (full text) searching.

Securing and controlling mission-critical data is a key issue today, and SMARTEAM Editor provides secure real-time access for authorized users to current information from virtually anywhere on the globe.
Authorizations is based on either users personal, group or role. User authorization may differ from one project to another.
Two levels of security are maintained: on metadata and on data.
Database control over meta-data - Using robust access permission tools, administrators configure the system to define permission privileges enabling appropriate users to access the files at the various product lifecycle phases.
Vault control over data - The Vault Server, compounded within SMARTEAM Foundation, ensures data integrity, enabling users to check documents, together with their related components, in and out of the electronic vault, preventing accidental deletion or unauthorized modification, thus reducing the risk of errors. SMARTEAM - Editor retrieves files from the Vault in addition to indicating the status of the files with appropriate icons, whether checked in, checked out, released or obsolete.
