I don’t know about all of you, but I spend a lot of time listening to podcasts. I’m a big sports fan, so a lot of what I listen to is about my favorite teams. I was also introduced to a history podcast that I’m a little surprised at how much I like it. One thing every podcast I listen to does for me is that it teaches me something. Now does information about my favorite football team impact me […]
What’s New in DriveWorks 18
This week is Digital DriveWorks World. Everyone knows what that means – DriveWorks 18 is officially released for download on the DriveWorks Community! I’ve gone through the release notes and I’ve played with some of the new features. On Tuesday, Glen Smith (CEO of DriveWorks) presented his What’s New presentation. Today, I’m going to give you some of my highlights of What’s New in DriveWorks 18, as well as what I am most excited to start rolling out to our […]
CATI SOLIDWORKS Virtual Desktop Solution
Due to changes in work environments brought on by the COVID-19 virus, we have seen many businesses move engineers from office work to home. For some businesses, this is not practical, as they use high-end engineering workstations in their office. These workstations and their infrastructure are not portable, meaning the engineers are forced to work in the office or shut down engineering productivity. Due to increased demand, CATI has created a monthly CATI SOLIDWORKS Virtual Desktop solution. The purpose of […]
Creating Master Models – Designing for Automation
Let’s talk about some modeling theory (shhhhh, don’t tell the CATI guys!). As frequent readers of my posts may know, I am an advocate of design automation and DriveWorks in particular. However, having good master modeling practices will benefit anybody, regardless of what automation method or software you may use. So, whether you use a fully vested option like DriveWorks or something completely out of the box like equations and custom properties, a good master model can go a long […]
Reusing Your CATIA V5-6 Data Efficiently
As fun and as riveting as CAD work is, it can become monotonous when the same geometry must be made repeatedly. When there is a geometry that is commonly used throughout a company or design group, it is ideal to create a method that is also common in order to develop and reuse this geometry. This makes it so that users can find the geometry rapidly, easily edit their data in the future, or pass off their data without worrying […]
Custom Drafting Standards in 3DEXPERIENCE
While using 3DEXPERIENCE, some companies may find it beneficial to set standards that all users must adhere to. In Drafting, users can manage and configure standards such as ISO, ASNI_ASME, JIS, or custom enterprise-wide standards. These standards define drafting elements like annotation, dimensions, dress-up, etc. In this demonstration, we will show how to create a custom set of standards and how to distribute them as a default option across an enterprise. We are only focusing on Drafting in this demonstration […]
12 days of InFlow – 3DExperience Swym Communities
Christmas is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate other than talk about 3DExperience?! Santa is hard at work getting ready for the season and using a 3DSwym community may help him tremendously. Earlier this week, we introduced the 3DExperience SOLIDWORKS add in. This time around, we will elaborate on communities and their benefits inside the platform. 1. Collaboration Over the past several months, InFlow Technology has been working towards learning and growing its 3DExperience portfolio. From […]
DriveWorks Integration with Other Systems
I love talking about and writing about DriveWorks. I love the flexibility and the power of the product to reduce time spent doing repetitive modeling and drawing. I’ve seen customers save hours, even days by using DriveWorks to automate their processes and I want this news to spread around the world. These processes that are being automated can be anything from creating models and drawings, to sending out auto-generated quotes via an email to customers. One topic that doesn’t get […]
Comparing SOLIDWORKS PDM and SOLIDWORKS Manage
SOLIDWORKS PDM has been on the market for a number of years now; its capabilities and functionalities are well known throughout the globe. But what about SOLIDWORKS Manage? Do you know what it is, what it does, or how it can help bridge some functionality gaps in existing systems? Let’s briefly compare SOLIDWORKS PDM and SOLIDWORKS Manage. Today, SOLIDWORKS PDM is a powerful data management solution for most of our customers. However, if you are looking for added capability such […]
Export CATIA V5 Parts with PMI Using Step AP242
Recently, the STEP neutral file format has been upgraded to included 3D Product and Manufacturing Information (PMI) in addition to the CAD data. This new STEP format is known as Application Protocol (AP) 242. With STEP AP242, the user can send 3D Master data which can include annotations, notes, constraints, and tolerances (both Linear/Angle and Geometric Dimension and Tolerance (GD&T)). This eliminates the need for a user to have to send both 2D drawings and 3D CAD data to the […]
