Before upgrading to SolidWorks EPDM 2014

Please be aware that there is a problem with the EPDM 2014 SP0 addin for SolidWorks that will fail to load with SolidWorks 2014 SP1. Enterprise PDM 2014 officially supports SolidWorks 2014, 2013 and 2012. If you are running EPDM with an older (or newer) version of SolidWorks the Enterprise PDM SolidWorks add-in should show a warning that the version is not supported. If you are using Enterprise PDM 2014 SP0 (v.14.0.506) this version check is too granular and will also trigger if the installed SolidWorks version is a newer 2014 service pack, such as SW 2014 SP1. When SolidWorks is starting up or if you try to add the […]

WebEx and Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 Compatibility Issues

With the recent release of Microsoft Windows 8.1, the official release of Internet Explorer version 11 is available for Windows 7. While this new version provides more performance and HTML 5 compatibility, it currently is not supported by WebEx. This can cause issues with the use of WebEx during our InFlow Technology support sessions. WebEx is planning to have IE 11 supported in late January 2014. In the mean time, if you have Internet Explorer 11, you can browse to the website link and then go into the Internet Explorer 11 Tools -> Compatibility Mode for viewing and interacting with the WebEx meeting. The other option is to use an […]

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM API 2014 Help updated.

With the release of SolidWorks Enterprise 2014, the API help documentation was updated to be more consistent with the other SolidWorks API help systems. This means the help now contains syntax for VB.NET, C#, managed C++, and a Send Feedback link on most of the help topics. Previous versions typically only contained the VB.NET syntax so no more having to translate it to your language preference from VB.NET syntax. The API help documentation is still installed in the program directory (typically C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Enterprise PDM\API_GB.chm), but you can now access it through the Help menu as well (Help -> API Help -> SolidWorks Enterprise PDM API Help). You can also […]

Random SolidWorks 2013 errors or hangs while using Enterprise PDM Vault

SolidWorks 2013 introduced a new process for opening files called SolidWorks file launcher (SWShellFileLauncher). This process is normally associated as the default application for opening SolidWorks file types. When a user double-clicked (or right-clicked) a file to open it into an existing SolidWorks session the following errors could occur. Error 1: Error 2: Previously the only work around was to try opening the file into a new session (required user to close existing instance of SolidWorks), drag-and-drop the file into the existing session, or use the File Open menu in the existing session. SolidWorks recently released SolidWorks 2014 SP0 and SolidWorks 2013 SP5 which includes updates to the SolidWorks file […]

InFlow now supports Exalead OnePart

InFlow Technology recently added Exalead OnePart to our product support portfolio.  This application, developed by Dassault Systemes, is a powerful search tool designed to connect all systems in your company.   Here's how it works: Picture a user searching for a part number or part description.  Exalead searches the PDM system, ERP system, sharepoint, and network drives all over the company.  The result is a single list that can be reviewed by the user.  If your system has duplicates, Exalead will present those and allow side by side comparisons to help the user identify the preferred item.   I have attached a video to provide a high level overview.  We […]

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (EPDM): Update a Data Card List through the Data Card

It’s not uncommon to have lists inside of an EPDM data card that is continuously being updated and on most occasions the lists must be updated by either modifying as static text list or a list inside of the SQL database. Updating a data card list on the fly by standard EPDM users can be accomplished by using an SQL list that looks at information already in the EPDM vault, such as folder names or variable values. Here is an example of an EPDM template that will create a customer folder, assign a customer name variable and update the lists. List sub-folders of a specific parent folder Here is the […]
